PRICE OF PETROL AUSTRALIAN ASURANCE INVESTIGATING RUMOUR (Elec. Tim. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 23. 1.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 23. Representatives of oil companies said there was no immediate intention to increase the price of petrol. Later if the war went on some slight increase might be necessary, but there was no reason why the price should soar.
Speaking at Canberra, the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies. said that the report circulated on Tuesday thnl an announcement of a probable increase of sixpence a gallon in the price of petrol had emanated from the Ministry for Information would be investigated. It had been suggested that the report was put out by the Ministry to test the public reaction.
