SUMMER STARTS LATE
| WESTERLIES AND HEAT BEACH MORE . POPULAR Although several weeks late this year, it seems as though summer weather has descended upon Gisborne, maximum temperatures for the week to date all being over the 70 degree mark. On Sunday and yesterday the temperatures reached their highest, the recordings on both days being 76 degrees at the Darton Field aerodrome.
Drying westerly winds have been experienced during the week and they have added to the summery atmoI sphere usually experienced in Gis- | borne. The enervating conditions have made their effects felt on the townspeople and this is reflected in the increases noticed in the number of bathers at the Waikanae Beach, many taking the opportunity after working hours of having a refreshing dip.
The temperature at the Waikanae j Beach at its peak yesterday afternoon was 78 degrees, and at 10 a.m. to-day it had risen to 73 degrees. At the meteorological station the i following maximum temperatures : have been registered for this week:— Sunday 76.0deg\ Monday 73.0 deg. Tuesday 70.0 deg. Wednesday 7G.odeg.
