ANNIVERSARY SERVICES TEA AND CONCERT HELD Large congregations were attracted recently to the anniversary services at the Gisborne Baptist Sunday School. In the morning Mrs. Captain Smith, of the Salvation Army, was the speaker, choosing for her subject "Pearls." The minister of the church, the Rev. E. W. Batts, gave the addresses in the afternoon and evening, speaking on the subject of “Bottles” and “Damascus Memories.” The scholars, assisted by the church choir under the baton of Mr. W. R. Kemp, rendered special music, including many beautiful airs from the classics. Mr. Harold Dunstan was the organist, and Miss Markaret Kemp tire pianist. Solos were sung by Lloyd Bovaird, Quentin Kemp, ’ Ellen Sharpies, Ruth Schwabc, June England, Eva Markie, and Pamela Kemp, and ducts by Eunice Knowles and Joyce Markie. and Jack Hodgson and Rov Smaill.
The scholars’ tea, concert, and prize-giving took place on Tuesday evening, Mr. Batts presiding. The prizes were presented by Mrs. W. R. Kemp. The programme was as follows: Group of choruses by primary grade; action songs, “Rose Buds,” "Songs of Joy-land,” "Sandwich Men,” “White Birds,” by Miss V. Cook and party. “Japanese Love Song" by Myrtle Moss. Olive Hansen, and party. “Sleepy Town Express" by Connie Moss and party: vocal solos. Eunice Knowles. “Way Down Somerset," Ruth Kellv. “I Sing a Song to Meet The Day,” and Ellen Sharpies; sketches. “Mystery of The Knife" and “Ghosts,” by the senior girls; play, “Jane Eyre at Lockwood"; recitations, Nettie Kearney, W. Moss, Douglas Te Whata. Barbara Robinson, and Graham Smaill: harmonica solos, Walter Bovaird, Pat Hill, and Phillip Te Whata: pianoforte duets, Joyce Markie and Olive Hansen, and Aldwyth and Margaret Kemp.
