SCOUT NOTES

CUB; PACKS, DO WELL KING’S BADGE PRESENTED SEA SCOUTS PROGRESS By “Scouter” The Cub packs are doing well, and there seems to be plenty of ginger in the work. Hikes over the hills and trips to the Kaiti Beach have filled a fair amount of the programme, but a great deal of ordinary Cub test work has been done as well. It is proposed to hold a day’s outing in the near future for both packs, when they will take lunch and make a real Cub day of it. The Mangapapa troop is working along steadily, mostly on test work, but from this week onward they will be doing Scout drill as well. Sing songs preparatory to camp also will start this week.

Last Wednesday evening the troop chairman, Mr. F. W. Bean, presented Sehvyn Carter with his King’s Scout Badge, all round order, and pathfinder and fireman badges, and wished him success ip the position of patrol leader to the newly-formed Fox patrol. The Y.M.C.A. troop is doing well on its new work, and singing, having the latter each Saturday evening prior to the routine work. The Sea Scouts are making good progress, both in respect to their work and to the troop strength, which has almost filled the four patrols, which, I believe, is the limit until some time after Christmas. Christmas Camp

Preparations for the Christmas camp arc going ahead steadily, and it seems as if the camp will be successful in every way. The final numbers attending are not yet to hand, but it is estimated that there will be approximately 150. A talk on the camp will be given by the senior scouters at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, when every officer is asked to be present. This includes scouters at Kanakanaia and on the East Coast, as well as the local, lads. T.he talk will be given at the Y.M.C.A. hall in Fitzherbert street. Some Scouts also are enrolling, being in different parts of the district and it seems that we will have some of these lads in camp with us at Christmas. At present these boys are under the supervision of the district Rovers.
