RISE IN PETROL PRICE
AUSTRALIAN DECISION SIXPENCE A GALLON (Reed. Nov. 21, 2.15 p.m.) 'MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. The retail price of petrol will probably be raised by 6d a gallon shortly. The increase will be made up of a duty of threepence, the oil companies’ portion amounting to 2d and the retailers’ share amounting to Id a gallon. Such a rise, it is stated, would affect the consumption to such an extent that the rationing of petrol would be unnecessary, while the increased" price would _ assist the Commonwealth Government to finance its huge defence expenditure.
