BUTTER AND BACON
| BRITISH PREPARATIONS j DATE NOT VET FIXED [ NO SERIOUS SHORTAGE (Elec. Tul. Copyright—United '■’resg Assn.) (Britisl; Official Wireless.) Reed. noon. RUGBY, Nov. 21. Preparations are proceeding rapidly for putting into operation the rationing of bacon and butter, and the date of the commencement will be announced as soon as registration by 'the public with selected retailers is completed. Next Thursday has been fixed for the last day of registration. The Food Ministry will receive the completed ‘returns soon afterwards and the I scheme ensuring equal distribution will take effect later. The Food Ministry is the sole importer of many essential foodstuffs and further items will be added to the list as the organisation grows until all important commodities are under one control. Concentrated overseas purchasing has resulted in great exchange savings as well as enabling an equitable price to be maintained, thus defeating a great deal of speculation. Substantial supplies of meat, bacon, and butter have been secured and no serious shortage is anticipated, although only about 50 per cent of the normal amount of butter consumed is being realised. Although for distribution purposes purchasers must register with a retailer, there is at present no rationing of this commodity.
