“SAFETY” BILLETS

PAYMENT IN BRITAIN LONDON, Oct. 3. For 8s Gd a week a child can live in a “safety” billet. in an evacuation area in the country. The Government pays the 8s 6d—t is a standard charge. For a soldier billeted to sleep in a house the Government pays Gd a night. A dog can also be evacuated to a safety area. The R.S.P.C.A. fix that, not the Government. They have lists of homes in the country at which dogs can be boarded. The charge (“unless a dog owner is very poor, in which case we can sometimes get a reduced rate”) is 10s a week.
