BRITISH SHIPS
INSPECTED BY ROYALTY The interest taken by the King and Queen in officers and men of the British Mercantile Marine, was forcibly demonstrated at one of the London docks recently. Shortly before a liner engaged in the New Zealand trade put to sea, the King and Queen paid a surprise and informal visit to the vessel. The liner is at present in New Zealand waters. The King and Queen boarded the Royal Barge up the Thames and had lunch at the docks. As they walked along the dockside to the New Zealand vessel, Their .Majesties were cheered by the dock workers. They boarded the vessel and were introduced to the captain. Then, "or about 10 minutes, the King and Queen walked about the liner, conversing with officers and men. Their Majesties were again cheered as they left the vessel. From it they went to another vessel, a grain shin which had just arrived in dock from overseas.
