THEFT FROM SHOP
MAN ADMITS GUILT COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE A labourer, Brian Desmond McMahon, aged 2,‘i, was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court in Wellington when he appeared this morning before Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., in the Police Court, charged with breaking and entering the shop of Jim Canelos on or about November !) and stealing £2 4s Gd. The prosecution was conducted by Detective-Sergeant R. 11. Waterson, and Mr. K. A. Woodward appeared for McMahon, who pleaded guilty. The proprietor of the shop, Jim Canelos, said he locked up at 11.20 p.m. on November 0. At that time the accused was talking to the witness, and had been in the-shop for about an hour previously. Next morning at i! a.m. the witness found a fanlight fastening broken and the kitchen window shattered, A drawer under the counter had been forced open and £2 4s Gd in small change stolen from that and the two tills. Detective-Sergeant Waterson said that on November 1G he interviewed the accused at the police station, where he made a statement admitting the offence. To Mr. Woodward, the witness said McMahon had been in gaol since his arrest on November 10, He had not been in trouble before.
