Fruit and potato crops in many parts of North Canterbury suffered considerably from a sharp and verv unexpected frost this week. Not torn any years has there been a frost so late or damaging to crops and gardens. Although it is yet too eariv lo estimate the extent of the damage in most parts, fruit growers in Loburn and Rangiora districts consider that their losses will be heavy. Few apple trees escaped undamaged, and in some places acres of potatoes were ruined. Some stone fruit croos also suffered. More than £SOO worth of damage to young fruit trees was suffered by a Rangiora nurseryman.
