EMPHATIC DENIAL

MR. HAMILTON'S CLAIM ABOLISHING INTERESTS TRANSPORT OPERATORS (?(■!• Press Assoc in I ion.) WELLINGTON, this day. j In a statement yesterday, the Minis[ter of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, emphatically denied the charges of the "Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, that the Government's policy aims at wiping out private transport interests. He quoted resolutions passed by the transport operators expressing appreciation of what the Government had done to reorganise the industry and offering full co-operation, Mr. Semple said the amazing thing was that Mr. Hamilton made his statement at Pahiatua after having been assured by the operators themselves that there was no such thing as confiscation, commandeer or dictatorship as suggested by Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Semple recalled saying recently that as long as private enterprise gave satisfactory and efficient transport service the Government was more than happy to leave the job to private enterprise.
