SUNDAY FUNERALS

ABOLITION ADVOCATED UNDERTAKERS’ MOVE (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Assistance in the movement to abolish Sunday funerals was sought by a deputation from the New Zealand Funeral Directors' Association which approached the Presbyterian General Assembly.

The funeral directors desired to eliminate Sunday work, said the leader of the deputation. Moreover, Sunday was the ministers’ busiest day. When it was impossible to avoid a Sunday funeral, the funeral directors would prefer it to be done before 11 a.m.

The assembly agreed to ask for the co-operation of the clergy, as suggested, the moderator remarking that the clergy were no more fond of Sunday funerals than the undertakers.
