PATRIOTIC FUNDS
CONTROL APPROVED NATIONAL BOARD PRINCIPLE SUPPORTED CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE (Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, this clay. “I am afraid a lot of the criticism levelled against the regulations lias been made under a misunderstanding. The object of tile regulations has been to prevent waste and overlapping,’ said Mr. R. H. Nirnrno, Wellington, speaking of patriotic funds at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, yesterday. Mr. Nirnrno moved: “That this conference urges all Chambers of Commerce and all members wholeheartedly to support the National Patriotic Fund Board and the various provincial patriotic councils in their effort to raise funds for approved patriotic purposes during the conduct of the present war, to the end that members of all the armed forces shall not lack anything conducing to their welfare and comfort, and urges all members, when the occasion arises, to subscribe generously to the patriotic funds for the relief of wounded and disabled members of the forces and the dependants of those men, and of the men who make the supreme sacrifice.”
Mr. Nirnrno said it would be a wonderful gesture for the associated chambers to give a lead to the community.
In reply to a question, he said the administration of the funds was almost entirely in the hands of the board.
The motion was seconded by Mr. A. Ely, Auckland, and carried. Mr. Ely said the arrangement made by the Government was decidedly for the well-being of the community as a whole.
