OBITUARY

The death has occurred of Mr. J. H. E. Tilling, who was well known throughout the Dominion for his work on behalf of the New Zealand South African War Veterans’ Association. Mr. Tilling, who was in his sixties, was born in England and served in the South African War as a member of the Imperial Yeomanry. He came to New Zealand after the war.

An early settler of the Cheltenham district, Mrs. Alice Maria Mills, widow of the late Mr. George Mills, passed away in the Palmerston North Hospital on November 4. The deceased reared a family of 13 children, seven of whom are returned soldiers, having seen service in the Great War. Predeceased by her husband some years ago, the late Mrs. Mills lived for many years in tlie . Cheltenham district. The bereaved family includes a daughter, Mrs. J. Curtis, Wairoa. There are also 53 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
