Social Security Benefits

The general secretary of the Public Works Employees’ Medical Association, Incorporated, Mr. W. G. Park, has received notilication from the Minister of Social Security that in view of the special circumstances at Kopuawhara, the district nurse has been authorised to issue medical certificates to those. members who apply for sickness benefits under the Social Security Act. This concession will do away witli the necessity of members travelling nearly 40 miles to obtain a medical practitioner’s certificate. In the majority of cases the cost of transport and time involved would normally have exceeded the benefits due to members under the Act.
