EMPLOYEES’ FEAR

STAFF RETRENCHMENT INVERCARGILL FIRMS IMPORT CUT EFFECTS (Per Pruss Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Concern about the possibility of retrenchment among the staffs of Invercargill business firms is being felt by the employees. The position that has arisen as a result of the firms being unable to obtain the goods they require will be discussed at a meeting of employees on Monday night, when it is expected a modification of the import restriction and exchange control regulations will be strongly urged and a decision reached to make strong representations to the Government. The employees, it was learned yesterday, have good reason for concern, as some firms have already indicated to their staffs that, because they are unable to increase the present stocks, they. wilt not require the present number of employees.
