MEMBERS' SATISFACTION

UPHOLDING OF DECISION RECENT COURT CASE "It was a matter of great satisfaction to the association to have the verdict of two of the members upheld in aft appeal in connection with a recent intoxication case," said the president, Mr. Charles Blackburn, at the quarterly meeting yesterday afternoon of the executive ol the Gisborne branch of the Justices of the Peace Association.

This reference was to a case heard in the Supreme Court on Monday, when an appeal by Robert Cadzow Fisken against the decision of Messrs. Blackburn and W. M. Jenkins, who imposed a fine of £ls, was dismissed by Mr.. Justice Blair.

Mrs. A. E. Beer said it made members feel that they were doing their duty thoroughly.

Votes of condolence with the relatives of the late Messrs. I. Mirfield and J. B. Clark, and with Mr G. S. B. Steel, Nuhaka, who had lost his wife, were passed, members standing in silence.

A recommendation was made that the annual conference should be held in Wellington in March, 1940, as first planned. The appointment of a delegate was deferred,

Five new members, Mr. T. A. Snclling. Ruatoria, Mr. C. H. Cracken, Tc Puia, Mr. H. H. Fairlie, Tokomaru Bay, Mr. Myles Doyle, Gisborne, and Mr. H. J. Lougher, Waerenga-a-hika, were elected.

There were present Mr. Blackburn, chairman, Mrs. W. E. GofYc, Messrs. G. Smith, E. Harris. J. 11. Hill, and the registrar, Mrs. Beer.
