MAYOR FATALLY SHOT
AMERICAN TRAGEDY POLICEMAN ENDS FEUD SURRENDER AT STATION
(Reed. Nov. hi, 1.40 0.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 15. As the aftermath of a political dispute, Patrolman Alvin Dooley fatally ; shot the Mayor, Louis Edwards in town at Longbcach and critically wounded the Mayor's bodyguard, James Walsh. Patrolman Dooley was standing in the front of Edward's home in the : morning when the Mayor and his bodyguard emerged. “Hello, Al,” said the Mayor. Patrolman Dooley, without speakI ing, drew a revolver and fired once j felling Edwards and then pumped two ; more bullets into Edwards' body. Walsh attempted to draw a gun, but two more bullets felled him. Patrolman Dooley walked calmly
to the station house and surrendered. Edwards died in hospital. Physicians j are giving blood transfusions to | Walsh. 1 A crowd gathered at the station j house threatening violence against i Patrolman Dooley.
