Nine Successes

A One ol' the features at the Avondale Jockey Club's meeting held last Saturday and Monday was the outstanding successes gained by horses trained at Ellerslie. During the two days they accounted for nine races, besides gaining minor plaeings on a similar number of occasions. As the stakemoney attached to the respective events totalled £2OOO, it was a good advertisement for Ellerslie, which has always been recognised for its qualifications as a training centre.

Winning Family

Lady Fox scored her initial success when she won the Trial Handicap at Whangarei and as she is susceptible to improvement, is likely to go on to better deeds. Lady Fox is a half-

sister by Foxbridge to Gay Sheila, Gay Blonde, Gay Sheik, Gay Brunette, Marie’s Acre and Philcourt, and comes from a great winning family, but whether she will emulate the deeds of her relatives may be a matter for conjecture, as she is unfortunately touched in the wind. Colt By Vaals Grand Spirit, dam of the promising two-year-old Grandora, will be represented by another colt next season by Vaals. and a few weeks ago foaled again to Vaals, the newcomer being another colt. Grandora was Grand Spirit’s first foal, so that she has had three colts in succession, while this season she was mated with the imported sire Dink.
