BOXING PROMOTION

MATCHING CONFIRMED

CALTAUX AND J. DAVIS

DECEMBER 4 TOURNAMENT

The Gisborne Boxing Association has received confirmation of the matching of Vic Callaux, Auckland, and Jack Davis, Hastings, for the main bout at its tournament on December 4. Articles have been signed by both professional boxers, and the association looks forward to having a good draw for the early part of next month. A team of five amateur boxers from Auckland will visit Gisborne for the fixture, and each will be matched with a Gisborne opponent in his own class, if possible. There is a possibility that the association will have to look elsewhere for an opponent for Branch, the middleweight from the north, who is a good cut above the average of his class. Branch will be remembered for his displays at the championship tournament in Gisborne in September, 19,’ 18, when overeagerness robbed him of an almost certain chance of championship honours.
