RUATORIA BOWLS
CLUB SEASON OPENED FAVOURED BY WEATHER (IleraM Correspondent.) The official opening of the Ruatoria Bowling Club took place last weekend, when the weather, although threatening, remained fine for the function. Visiting bowlers included members of the Gisborne, Tolaga Bay and Tokomaru Bay clubs. Owing to the indisposition of Mr. P. G. Burton, the dub's president, Mr. J. Birch, the captain, welcofncd the visitors. In officially declaring the green open, Mrs. P. G. Burton, wife of the president, rolled the first bowl, and her achievement as a bowler was applauded by those present. Results of the games were:—Exeter, Savage. Jackson. Hankey (s) 28 v. Tuck. Corkery, Ncvin, G. Bennett (s) 12; Laurence, H. F. Smyth, Bagge, Watt (s) 18 v. J. Clarke, J. G. ’Russell, Robertson. F. Thompson (s) 21: W. Carter, Nicholas, Fletcher, C. Blackburn (s) 18 v. Prior to the opening ceremony and in reply to Mr. Birch’s welcoming speech, Mr. Slight, Gisborne, suitably responded, and thanked the ladies for the afternoon tea they were about to receive, the thanks to the ladies who assisted in this connection being due to Mcsdames P. G. Burton, E. Williams, H. F. Smyth, J. Hogan, J. Birch. J. G. Russell, V. Bagge, E. A. Hunter, J. Ward, W. 11. O. Johnston, Kunioka, Brook, Richardson, Fry and Miss Bird
