THE WEATHER
Last Night’s Forecast General situation: An anticyclone is moving slowly from the west on to the Dominion. Pressure is still low to the east, however, while a series of weak disturbances continues to pass to the south of the South Island. Forecast: Winds, southerly prevailing' at first in most districts, but directions tending more westerly in the South Island, force strong in the East Cape area, otherwise light to fresh. Seas: In New Zealand waters rough north of Wanganui and from Castlepoint to East cape, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman: Moderate southerly winds and moderate seas. Weather: For the most part fine and settled, scattered showers, however, in the East Cape area and in the far north and far south. Temperatures: Gradually rising, but light frosts probable again to-night. To-Day’s North Island Report
A general rise in the barometric pressure was reported on the East Coast this morning and at nearly ail points the pressure had reached a moderately high level. Following the recent cold snap the temperatures showed an improvement, the highest 9 o’clock reading being 01 degrees at Tauranga, with 60 at Wellington. 50 at Auckland, 57 at Cape Maria Van DieiVien, Tiritiri and Cape Palliser, 55 at Gisborne and Napier, and 50 at Opotiki. Strong southerly winds prevailed from Auckland northwards, with a moderate breeze to calm conditions elsewhere. The weather was'tine and blue sky was reported at Auckland, Tiritiri, Tauranga. Opotiki, Napier and Wellington. The state of the sen along the coast was moderate. Midday Forecast General Situation: An extensive anticyclone is advancing on to the Dominion, the highest pressure being in the north. F< recast: Gradually decreasin': southerly winds, a few further showers but weather improving and temperatures becoming milder. Seas: Moderate.
