MATERNITY FACILITIES
POSITION IN WAIROA VISIT OF INSPECTOR (Special to tliu IT,.‘raid.) WAIROA, this day. After visiting Wairoa to investigate the needs of the district so far as maternity facilities are concerned. Dr. L. C. McNickle. inspector of hospitals, is of (he opinion that the Wairoa Hospital Board would be better advised to build an annexe on the main site.
This view was given lo the board at its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon by the Dircctor-Gen'cral of Health. Dr. M, IT. Wall, who was present at the meeting. He added, however, that the position would be more fully investigated on his return lo Wellington.
Referring to the maternity facilities, Dr. Watt stated that it was the opinion of some of his departmental officers that it would be a better proposition for the board to acquire the private hospital here and make additions to it in preference to erecting a maternity annexe.
After commenting on the position in this manner. Dr. Watt received advice of Dr. McNickle expressing the view quoted above.
