REDUCING TROOPS
NORTH CHINA FORCES DECISION OF BRITAIN MINIMUM NEEDS PROPERTY PROTECTION (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 10.45 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 13. The War Office announces that Britain, which maintains in North China, according to the international protocol of 1901, certain military forces, has decided, for reasons of military convenience which have arisen from the conflict in Europe, to maintain there only the effectives necessary to protect property and maintain order.
This decision has been notified to the various Governments who equally maintain garrisons in North China under the 1901 protocol.
The Tokio correspondent of the British United Press says, that the Japanese are satisfied with the British announcement which is regarded as a move towards the eventual relinquishment of British interests in North China. It is estimated that only 100 to 150 troops will remain to serve the Embassy and consular guards.
