DROWNING AVERTED

CHILD FALLS INTO DIP RESUSCITATION SUCCEEDS A knowledge of resuscitation methods saved the life of an 18-months-old child at Rewa, Manawatu, under unusual circumstances. 'The child had accompanied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woolford. of Waituna, to a farm managed by Mr. S. A. Johansen, of Rewa. During the afternoon the child was missed and was subsequently found by her mother in a dip. A farm hand, Mr. Thomas McKenzie, hurried to the scene and discovered the child floating face upward, apparently lifeless. Undismayed, Mr. McKenzie immediately applied resuscitation methods. At first there was no response, but Mr. McKenzie, assisted by Mr. Johansen, worked steadily until! the child freed her lungs of water.
