ROWING

GISBORNE TRIAL FOURS SEMI-FINAL RACES The semi-final races of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s trial fours series were decided during the week-end. The winning crew in the first event was J. Gemmell, str., T. Wilbanks, L. Franks and F. Henry, who defeated M. Burridge, str., J. liankey, L. Osmond and R. Taylor. Gemmell had the better of the start and, hitting up a quick stroke, drew away to a lead of half a length at the footbridge. Burridge sprinted well just above Derby street, but the issue was never in doubt and Gemmell won by two lengths. In the other semi-final R Mahon, sir., R. Waller, J. Wilkins, and P. Perry won from S. Allen, str., C. Armstrong, R. Ogitvie and T. Puddick, The start was even and the boats stayed together until Carnarvon street, where Mahon drew away to a lead of barely half a length. Allen sprinted and was nearly on even terms again just below Derby street. In the filial sprint Mahon's better combination decided the issue and he won by a canvas.

If weather conditions permit, the final race will be rowed to-night between crews stroked by R. Mahon and. J. Gemmell.
