GIFTS FOR SERGT.-MAJOR 54 GALLONS OF BEER (Reed. Nov. 13. 2.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 13. Further evidence that the present war is different from all previous wars, is shown by a happy ceremony which t'ook place at the showground camp or the Second A.I.F. On the night before the men were transferred to a new camp, the men presented their sergeant-major with a silver-mounted cane, a case oi' oranges and a wristlet watch “as a token of friendship,” also 54 gallons of beer which they helped him to dispose of during the evening.
