IMPORTANT WORK

PETROL COMPANY

During the oast few weeks three Gisborne men who have volunteered for service with the special military force have been appointed to the Divisional Petrol Company. With the mechanisation of the transport and fighting units of a division some hundreds of motor-cycles and vehicles have to be constantly supplied with petrol. In addition to its fighting load a vehicle can carry only a certain quantity of petrol. As a result of this big demand for petrol a special divisional unit has been added" to deal with the problem of supply. The personnel is being carefully selected", for In addition to requiring a knowledge of petrol the members need to have an intimate knowledge of the whole divisional organisation so that they can find their way rapidly to divisional units wherever they are engaged or located. It will be the duty of the Divisional Petrol Company to keep motor vehicles supplied with fuel and oil right up to the line of engagement, so that the men operating the vehicles will not have to wait for supplies during the course of an engagement. The work of the Divisional Petrol Company, like that of the Divisional Ammunition Company, will play a very important part in maintaining the"mobility and fighting power of all units dependent on motor transport.
