WARTIME INCREASE
PERSONNEL, OF NAVY MANY NEW CRAFT (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 11. Considerable expansion of the Royal Navy personnel has taken place since the outbreak of the war. This is partly necessitated by the commissioning of ships in the Reserve Fleet for which normally no peacetime . complement existed, and a large number of auxiliaries joining the fleet. Prior to the rearmament of the British Navy, the personnel was 92,000, but by April, 1940, it is estimated it will have risen to 131,000. Excluding the emergency war expansion, it is expected that the expansion during the next 12 months will be at least 58,000 men.
