CHURCH PARADE

TERRITORIAL UNITS OTHER CORPS ATTEND YESTERDAY’S MUSTER The annual church parade of territorial units in Gisborne was held yesterday, when a special service was held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Rev. A. J. 11. Dow being the officiating minister.

The parade, under the command of Major J. G. Nolan, was headed by the W.E.C.M.R. Band, with Lieutenant A. Wood in command, and comprised five officers and 33 men of A Squadron, W.E.C.M.R., one officer and 53 other ranks of B Company, Ist Hawke’s Bay Infantry Regiment, and 30 other ranks of the headquarters company, Ist Hawke’s Bay Regiment. Other units which took part in the parade were represented by three officers and nine other ranks of the Legion of Frontiersmen, with whom one nursing sister marched, nine other ranks of the Gisborne Scottish Society’s Pipe Band, and six members of the men’s division of the Red Cross Society.

The smartness of the territorials’ turn-out, and also that of the other units represented, was the subject of general comment, the parade making a brave display on route to church and again on its march back to the Abercorn Hall, the assembly-point. The Rev. A. J. 11. Dow preached a sermon on the theme of service, and the dedication of effort directed to the common good and to the preservation of the higher ideals.
