Last Night’s Forecast General situation: The last of the recent westerly depressions has passed rapidly eastward and is being followed by an extensive anti-cyclone. The disturbance which was forming yesterday in the north Tasman Sea is now north of Cape Maria Van Diemen. Forecast: Winds, moderate to strong south-easterly in the northern and north-eastern portions ot the North Island; elsewhere fresh but gradually decreasing' south-westerly to southerly. Seas: iln New Zealand waters, rough in the South Taranaki Bight and becoming rather rough north of Castlepoint; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh southerly winds and moderate seas. Weather: Intermittent rain probable in the North Auckland and in the Hawke's Bay-Bay of Plenty area, otherwise cool and changeable but improving, especially in western districts; some sharp frosts probable to-night inland in the South Island. Tewed,?. To-Day’s North Island Report The barometric pressure at Gisborne this morning was rising and at most points along the East Coast the 9 a.m. readings were a shade above normal. Temperatures generally were cold, the maximum being 5G degrees at Cape Maria Van Diemen, Cape Palliser and Cape Campbell, while other readings were: Auckland, Napier and Wellington, 55 degrees; Tauranga and Opotiki, 5.1, Gisborne. 51. Strong southerly winds prevailed over the northern part of the island, while in the Wellington district light, breezes were reported. Heavy rain fell overnight between Gisborne and Opotiki. with a tally of LOtlin. at East Cape. The sea was rough at East Cape and Cape Maria Van Diemen, with slight seas elsewhere. Midday Forecast General Situation: A depression is centred to the north-east, but an anticyclone is moving on to the Dominion from the west. Forecast: Moderate to strong southerly winds.
