CLAIM ON OLD DEBT

MAGISTRATE’S COMMENT POSITION OF DEFENDANT A case in which a Hamilton firm made' a claim against a Galatea farmer.for a debt which had been outstanding since 1932 provoked some comment from Mr. W. 11. Freeman, S.M., in the Whakatanc Magistrate’s Court. “Here is a case where a judgment summons has been hanging over a man’s head since 1932,” said Mr. Freeman. . “Why cannot people forget sometimes that they have money owing to them? If plaintiff in this case had made any inquiries at all it would have been found that defendant has no money. “Defendant is working at Galatea and barely produces enough to keep himself and family. To institute proceedings in such an instance is nothing but a waste of time and a waste of plaintiff’s own money.”
