REASON FOR REFUSAL
PART FRUIT PURCHASE . PROBLEM of balance SALE OR STORAGE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Reasons why the proposals involved in the Government’s offer to fruitgrowers were unacceptable to the industry are given in a statement made by the New Zealand Fruit Board last evening on behalf of the industry. The offer by the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, included n proposal to purchase 1,000,000 cases at 7s a case f.o.b.
The statement by the board says that the fundamental objection to this proposal was that it did not offer to. the industry any medium for financing a reasonable return to the growers lor the remainder of the crop, nor did it assure the industry ihat there would be any cool store space available to it for disposing of the 2,500,000 cases left with * the growers.
The growers’ average cost was regulated by the operation of the Government’s economic policy.
