Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: A weak disturbance is crossing the central portion of the country, while a much more intense one is centred to the south of the South Island.

Forecast: Winds moderate to strong northerly to westerly reaching gale force at times in exposed positions south of Taranaki and Hawke's Bay, A change to south-westerly probable later in the south. Seas: In New Zealand waters rough south of Cane Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits and olTshore south of Castlepoint, otherwise moderate.

Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds later tending to westerly or south-westerly; seas, rather rough to rough. Weather: Fair east of the ranges and in the north, cloudy to overcast in western districts south of the King Country with rain probable at times, and rain later extending to scattered parts of Southland, Otago and Canterbury. Temperatures: Mild but becoming cooler in the south.

To-Day’s North Island Report During the 2-1 hours ended al 9 a.m. to-day the barometric pressure along the East Coast showed a decline, but .at Gisborne the pressure was steady at a normal level. The north-westerly winds, which were general, were particularly strong in the Wellington district this morning and at Cape Palliser the force of the wind readied 34 to 40 miles per hour. Blue sky was reported at Wellington and Cape Palliser, but elsewhere conditions were overcast. The sea was rough at Cnstlepoinl, Wellington and Cape Campbell, but smooth to moderate at other points. The temperatures at 0 tun. were: Castlepolnt and Cape Palliser, (14 degrees; Opoliki (12; Gisborne. fit; Auckland and Napier, 00: Wellington. .18; and Tatiranga, 15. Midday Forecast General Situation: A series of deep westerly depressions is crossing the South Island and conditions are also disturbed in the north. Forecast: Moderate to strong and rather squally north-west to westerly winds. Weather: Cloudy with some further scattered rain, but improving. Temperatures: Warm. Seas: Rather rough offshore.
