READING’S DERBY
SYDNEY PRESS EULOGY TRIBUTE TO JOCKEY
(Klpp. Tct. Copyright—-United Press Assn )
(Reed. Nov. 6, noon.) SYDNEY, Nov. G. The Sydney Morning Herald’s Melbourne correspondent, commenting on the Derby, says that Reading made his own sound pace and at no stage looked likely to be beaten by his great rival, High Caste, whom he has beaten in six of their 11 meetings. Beau Vite did -not run kindly in the straight, while Gold Salute was not in the picture at all and finished a long way last. The Daily Telegraph’s Melbourne correspondent says that Reading s brilliant win was planned by the jockey, Munro, a week ago. The race was run to suit Munro’s scheme of securing a break on the field at the half-mile. Beau Vite could not come on. The big disappointment, however, was Gold Salute. He was badly away, 1 but never seemed able to pass a horse. The Telegraph, commenting on the Hotham Handicap, says Catalogue 1 amazed racegoers by leading all the way, carrying 9.2 on a rain-sodden track.
