MANCHESTER UNITY

LOYAL GISBORNE LODGF MEMBERS ON SERVICE RULING ON PAYMENT Manchester Unity Oddfellows Loyal Gisborne Lodge, 6087, held its fortnightly meeting last night, Sister G. E. Wallen, N. G., presiding over a moderate attendance. A circular was received from the grand secretary outlining the procedure in regard to members who had enlisted with military, naval or air forces. It was suggested that single members should be charged sick, funeral and management contributions only, for in the event of a member being ill medical and hospital facilities were provided for him while he was on service.

A married man also would be relieved of similar payments, but should his wife desire cover for herself and dependents in respect of medical, dispensary and hospital benefits she should be charged in the same way as widows of deceased members.

All members should pay contributions to the time of proceeding to camp. Until it was known the nature and scope of the military duties the men were called upon to do, nothing very definite could be done in the matter by an ordinary or special movable conference of the society. Nominations were received for officers to take the chairs during the next term, and in regard to the E.S. it was decided to extend nominations until next lodge night, when tlie election would take place.

Bro. W. M. Michie, P.G., was appointed to meet representatives of other lodges to reach a final decision in regard to the dispensary fees. Bros. T. A. Dunstn'n and P. O Niven P.Gs.. were deputed to arrange teams for an indoor bowling tournament to be bold on Thursday night by the Druids, the holders of the inter-lodge trophy.

Letters of recommendation were granted to Bro. F. M. Reynolds, who was proceeding to Wellington, and to Bro. J. G. A. Hughes, to Eltham, Before the meeting concluded, the gold degree was conferred on three members. The serving of supper brought the meeting to a close.
