KETTLES FOR BRIDES

ENGLISH RECTOR’S GIFTS

LONDON, Sept. 12.

Miss Joan Brain, who is being married to-day to Mr. Jack Ballinger, will be the hundredth bride married in the village church at Biddleslone, Wilts, to receive a copper kettle as a wedding present. Every bride married by the rector, Cation IT. E. Kctchley, has received a similar gift. So proud of their kettles are many of flic village wives that they use them as ornaments.

‘‘lt began,” Canon Ketchley said, "with the first marriage I performed here. It was of a maid at the rectory.

"I asked Iter what she would like for a present, and she asked for a copper kettle. “So 1 thought I would treat all future brides alike. “I’ve baptised 210 children since I've been here, and given each of them a hank bool: with a half-crown deposit in it.”
