Mr. McGillick’s Address

Sir,—ln view of the comment passed on Mr. McGillick’s speech, the following extracts taken from an English newspaper published since the outbreak of war should be of interest. One of the world’s most famous politi-

cal observers, Mr. K. Zilliacus, ol League of Nations fame, stages: “The foreign policy of the National Government .since 1931 bears a terrible responsibility for this war. This is not the time to go into that, but it. is something to remember in the final reckoning with our governing class.” Sir Stafford Cripps writes: “Unity with the common objective of defeating Nazism cannot last under the present Government, who have shown themselves more conceaiei with the interests of their own class than with the interests of the workers. We must, therefore, insist upon a change of Government if unity is. to be preserved. We must drop those who arc so discredited by the part they have played in the past. The greatest essential for future peace is power for the working .class to decide thenown destiny in every country." In view of the above remarks, your correspondents will realise that Mr. McGillick is not the only one to be so “unpatriotic” as to criticise those who “have been more concerned with their own class interest.” LIBERAL.
