DEMAND FOR WOOL
FRANCE AND JAPAN AUSTRALIAN FIGURES SYDNEY. Oct. 20. France would probably take 1.000.000 bales of Australian wool this season, and Japan would probably want between 300,000 and 400,000 bales, said the Minister for Works and Local Government, Mr. L. O. Martin, in the Legislative Assembly yesterday. Mr. Martin quoted these figures when explaining the appointment of a number of foreign wool appraisers to value the wool clip. He said it should be understood that Australia would pay nothing for the cost of the appraisements. The cost would be met by the British Government, as was done in the last war. It should also be understood that Australian wool would be sold to quite a number of buyers from neutral countries. Those buyers had been npprais'ng wool for years. They knew the type that was required by their respective country. Nothing could be said against the action of the Federa'i Government in asking them to appraise the wool again.
