OFFICER’S TRANSFER

RETURN TO NAPIER MR. SURGENOR LEAVING Advice has been received by Mr. R ,T. Surgenor of his transfer to the Napier oilice of the State Advance: Corporation, and lie has arranged tr leave Gisborne on Friday. Mr. Surgenor has been farm appraiser for the State Advances Corporation in the Gisborne district for the past two years. He was previously with the State Advances office in Napier, to which town lie is returning, and prior to that was in Invercargill. Hockey players and umpires in Gisborne will regret Mr. Surgenor’s departure, for ho took a prominent part in the sport. He held a New Zealand A grade certificate as an umpire, and did" much to encourage the Poverty Bay Hockey Umpires’ Association and to train young men in the art of controlling the game. His keen judgment of hockey ability won him the position of sole selector for the Poverty Bay men’s hockey representative team this season.

Prior to coming to Gisborne to lake up his residence, he was already well known here, for he had attended New Zealand women’s tournaments in the town, accompanying the victorious Southland team in 1929.
