INCREASE SOUGHT GISBORNE BUTCHERS MUCH BELOW CITIES I In view of the increasing costs and ! the high price of fat stock, Gisborne ! butchers are faced with a necessity i for revising their retail schedules, but! have not been able to secure the sane-; tion of the Price Fixation Tribunal. | Gisborne meat prices, it was stated j by one of the leading butchers to-day, 1 are considerably below those in Auck- j land, despite a reduction of Id per lb.: which became operative in the north-1 ern city from to-day. Auckland re- ; tail rates were increased on October Hi. following a rise in the price ot I fat stock, and to-day's reduction is j merely a return to the level existing! prior to that date. A difference of from 2d to 3d per lb. exists between Gisborne and Auckland retail prices, it was stated, a comparison between the main items being given in the following table:—
Stock prices in the Gisborne district were slightly lower than those in Auckland, it was pointed out, but fit the same time these rates were high in Gisborne, particularly beef, which averaged out at approximately 37s tM per 1001 b. for cow and heifer station beef.
