CAPETOWN, Nov. 4. | Announcing that his leadership had I''reconsolidated afrikanderdom,” the former Prime Minister of South Africa, General J. B. Hertzog, declared that the participation in the -var as advocated by the Prime Minister, General J. C. Smuts, greatly .■ontributed to the annihilation of all bonds with Britain. He added that the decision of the Englishspeaking members of the Union Parliament to support General Smuts had severely affected the relations between the English-speaking and African-speaking sections of the community.' As far as South Africa was concerned, nothing could be more destructive to the maintenance of tire Empire than her participation in the war.' declared General Hertzog. He warned General Smuts that unless South Africa was governed as an independent and free country, her participation in the British Commonwealth of Nations would be of diort duration.
