MOTORIST INJURED
CAR UPSET ON ROAD ROLLED OVER TWICE When his car capsized and rolled over twice on the Waerenga-a-hika section of the main north highway the driver, Frank Douglas East, aged 22, single, 35 Lynahurst street, Gisborne, received injuries to his hands and shoulder that necessitated his removal on Saturday afternoon to the Cook Hospital. His condition this morning was reported to be a little better, although his injuries were not of a serious nature.
At the time of the accident Mr. East was returning to Gisborne from Ormond, having with him as a passenger. Mr. Thomas McLeish. Mr. McLeish was unhurt in the accident. The
mishap occurred at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday at a point near the gate of the property owned by the estate of the late Mr. George Witters, seven and a quarter miles from Gisborne. The vehicle was moving off the crown of the road and the driver gave the wheel too short a turn to correct the fault, causing the car to overturn. Mr. ' East was cut by flying glass from the windshield.
The vehicle came to rest on its wheels and Mr. East continued to drive it towards Gisborne. He was stopped by the Transport Department’s inspector, Mr. R. Metcalfe, who rendered first aid and drove Mr. East to the hospital.
A collision between two cars occurred at 5.45 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Childers road and Lowe street, the drivers being Mrs. Catherine Egan, Rutene road, and Mr. Charles W. Read, 16 Rangi street. At the time of the mishap Mr. Read was backing his vehicle out from a parked position. No one was hurt, and the cars were only slightly damaged.
