MAKARETU ABERDEEN ANGUS STUD

This year's Show loam from the ; Makaretu Aberdeen Angus Stud, the i property of Mrs. Isobel Harris, Here, j is small and select. It contains the newly-imported sire Event of Callow • ! hill, which has arrived in New Zealand with a very fine reputation of i backing' in breeding and Show ring performances. His sire, Elver of Gallowhill, was probably the bestknown bull in England and Scotland ' for many years, and his ultimate sale to the Argentine for 2500 gns. alone i speaks volumes. Elver of Gallowhill was placed at various shows according to the fol- : lowing:—First prize in the Highland | Show, Aberdeen; first prize in the

Newcastle Royal Show: first prize 2-year-old bull and male Champion and winner of the Ballindalloch Cup and the Estangnet Cup in the Highland Show at Trelroso, 1930; first prize senior bull and male Champion and Ballindalloch Cup in the Highland Show in Alloa; first prize senior bull and male Champion at Wolverhampton.

The dam of Event, Eva of Gallowhill 3rd, won second prize in the Highland Show at Aberdeen. His great dam won first prize in the Highland Show, also first prize at Wolverhampton, and first prize in the Wolverhampton Rnyil Show.

THE PROPERTY OF MRS. ISOBEL HARRIS, RERE

Tins year’s draft of 2-year-old bulls was mainly sold privately as a result of keen inquiry. Only six were offered at the Combined Breeders’ Sale and these met with a keen demand.

During the last few years several shipments of both heifers and bulls have been selected from the Makaretu Stud in order to form the nucleus of herds in the Sou Hi Island, all animals changing hands at very satisfactory prices. The herd is run on high country under natural conditions, and contains some very choice animals. Inspection is cordially invited.
