Four in Past 3G Years
THE Gisborne Show secretaries i number 13, and while fairly fre-! quent changes were made in the early | days, there have been only four! during the past 36 years. Mr. Fred. Dufaur, a popular figure j in Gisborne at the time, was elected j the first secretary of the society, lie j
was the first publisher and editor of the Poverty Bay Herald, a position which he field for three years, his
connection with the paper being i severed at about the same time as hej resigned from the position of secretary j of the society. Flc met an untimely \ death in the Waitemata Harbour many j years later, being drowned while try- j ing to recover a yacht that had broken ; from its moorings. • j ' Musically inclined and with a pleasant manner, Mr. Dufaur was I among the most popular men in the j town. He entered enthusiastically into i the Show movement, and during the! three years in office his sound business knowledge was a great asset to the 1 society.
