SHOW CATERING

FIRST BIG EFFORT

WOMEN'S ORGANISATION

GISBORNE GARAGE DEPOT

AID STILL SOLICITED

Arrangements are well in hand for the Show catering effort being undertaken next Tuesday and Wednesday by the Poverty Bay Women’s Representative Committee to raise funds for the Red Cross. It is hoped to make an outstanding success of this first big Poverty Bay contribution towards raising money for the soldiers’ requirements and comforts.

The women organising the effort have been working very hard to perfect the arrangements, which arc now well under way. Nevertheless, contributions along the lines previously outlined will still be more than welcome. Givers of help or of produce are particularly asked to note that the Gisborne Garage in Peel street is the depot where all goods should be left on Monday and Tuesday next— Monday for the first Show day’s supplies, and Tuesday for those of the second day. New potatoes are still wanted and even a parcel or a pound or two of these vegetables would be a welcome gift.

Contribution By Everyone

It is hoped by the organisers that every person who attends the Show will have either luncheon or tea in the Show restaurant, instead of taking their own meals with them. In this way everyone can make their contribution as a gesture for the soldiers, even if they are unable to give donations of food or service. A slight error was made in the price for morning and afternoon tea quoted in the folder in the Herald on Thursday. This should have been Is 3d, instead of Is 6d as quoted.

Mrs. W. A. McCliskie is president of the committee, and Mrs. G. A. Nicholls is organising secretary. Other active members of the Show sub-committee are Mesdames R. U. Burke, L. T. Barnard, E. Ewart Brown, A. F. Hall, H. R. Kendon, W. Tamihana and P. Tureia, and Miss N. Cotterill. In addition, telephone communications may be made to Mrs. Hugh Jones, telephone 1441, Mrs I. F. Puflett, telephone 398, Mrs. R M. Hewetson, telephone 1263, Mrs. If. J. Steed, telephone 1709, and Mrs. H, R. Kendon, telephone 1227. Ladies who have accepted duties involving their attendance at the Show grounds are requested to report on arrival there to Mrs. E. Ewart Brown at an inquiry tent which is to be erected at the rear of the public dining hall.
