Modern Russia and England

Sir, —I would like to suggest to “C.P.H.,” as his sympathies seem to be with a man who can go to the trouble to make sneering remarks about a country who is at present fighting against brutal aggression and who should have the best wishes and whole-hearted support of evei-y decent-minded citizen, why not be more frank and openly advocate the methods of Messrs. Stalin and Hitler? One quite understands that the British have been called pirates and thieves

in the past, but Ihey have never done what gallant Russia did to Poland, viz., attack her in the back while fighting against overwhelming odds. This, in my opinion, savours more of a pack of dogs and not the conduct of a civilised nation.

As to cheap patriotism and flagwagging, what about freedom-loving Germany and Russia, where “C.P.K.. if he did not shout "Heil" quick and often and use the word comrade while looking round for the secret police to take him away for not agreeing with the powers that be. would certainly not be in the position to air his opinion, as he is under the despised British flag.

As for the quotation from “11.M.5. Pinafore,” this was written to show up faults in the British Navy at that time and not as an insult to the British nation. A. PARK.
