£IO,OOO FIRE DAMAGE

FURNITURE FACTORY TIMBER STOCKS LOST (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Damage estimated at £IO,OOO was caused by a spectacular fire yesterday afternoon in Broad, Small and Co.’s furniture factory.

The rear portion of the premises was gutted and 250,000 ft. ot timber was destroyed.

Full details of the insurance cover are not yet available, but the firm will be a heavy loser. The Yorkshire office holds the policies.

The staff involved, numbering 40, have not been thrown out of employment and work is proceeding as usual to-day. The bedding and upholstery branch suffered most, while stocks of valuable timber, including 20,000 ft. of oak, were lost.
