AUSTRALIAN OUTLAY
BILL FOR DEFENCE MAINLY AT HOME (Reed. Nov. 2, 2.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 2. During his statement last night concerning Australian defence matters, the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, said that only £7.700,000. or 13 per cent of the outlay would be spent abroad.
Mr. Menzies directed attention to the fact that Australia's expenditure on defence in the first year of the last war was only £19,000,000. He emphasised that the estimated expenditure for this year, £59,500,000, was not final as it was not yet possible to forecast the cost of Australia’s participation in the Empire air training scheme.
