TOURNAMENT TENNIS
CHRISTMAS FIXTURE TO BE STARTED EARLY For the convenience of tennis enthusiasts having short holidays during the Christmas vacation, 'it was decided last evening at a meeting of the executive of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association to make it possible for er.rly rounds of the Christmas tournament to be started on Saturday, December 23. The chairman was Mr. E. Woodrow. The tournament will be conducted on the courts of the Gisborne club, and any overflow matches will takeplace on the Titirangi courts. It was explained that the starting of the matches on the Saturday will be optional, and that the tournament proper would not open until Tuesday. December 20. Entries will close on December 19, and the draw will be announced on December 20. Miniature cups will be presented in the ease only of the winners of championships, and" in the handicap events some other form of trophy will be the reward in order to distinguish between the two series. An announcement was made that the season was now open for challenges to be received by Mr. R. Connop for the distinction of holding the Miller Stars and Chrisp Stars, men and women's series respectively. The following dates were approved for tournaments on the Coast: Ruatoria tournament. December 20-28; Tolaga Bay, January 29-30; Tokomaru Bay, New Year dates; Te Araroa, Easter dates.
